Job Title: Clinical Engineering Technician

Location: SeatTech, Enable Ireland, Sandymount

Reporting to: SeatTech Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor

Overall Purpose of the Post:

To support the SeatTech team in ensuring the smooth running of all manufacturing operations at SeatTech.

 

Essential Criteria – NB: ALL essential criteria must be met in order to qualify for interview

  • Apprenticeship of Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification to minimum NFQ Level 6 (In order to qualify for interview, official, written evidence of this must accompany the application).
  • Eligibility to be registered as ‘Engineering Technician’ with Engineers Ireland (In order to qualify for interview, official, written evidence of this must accompany the application).
  • Manufacturing workshop training and experience to include experience using, and undertaking planned preventative maintenance on, machine tools and handheld power tools
  • Demonstrable technical competence – A hands-on practical will form part of the assessment process
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to take a hands on role in completion of technical work
  • Understanding of line management structure and willingness to adhere to same
  • Understanding of and willingness to adhere to organisational policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail

DUTIES

This person will exercise clear technical judgement in contributing to day-to-day stock management, design, development & manufacturing of products & services.

 

Stock Control

The Clinical Engineering Technician will carry primary responsibility for management of all stock levels, under the supervision of the SeatTech Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor.

 

Health & Safety

Take a lead role, in conjunction with the Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor, in ensuring a safe work environment for all staff.

 

Research & Design

Research & Design is key to SeatTech’s stated mission of providing service users with the ‘best possible’ seating, mobility and positioning aids. It is expected therefore that the Engineering Technician will support and play an active role in research & design projects and report jointly with technical team on research project findings.

 

Manufacturing

Manufacture SeatTech devices and components under the direction and supervision of Senior Clinical Engineering Technicians, Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor, or Clinical Engineer, as appropriate.

 

Other Duties

  • Undertake general maintenance within the SeatTech building, as requested by management, e.g. mounting fixtures on walls, minor repairs etc.
  • To assist the Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor in other duties to ensure effective operation and development of the service as required.

 

Professional Formation

All SeatTech staff members are expected to keep abreast of developments in the field, and to upskill through on-the-job training and external training courses.

 

Responsible to:   SeatTech Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor.

Probation:             A six-month period of probation applies to this post.

Salary:               Salary paid in alignment with Clinical Engineering Technician scale of the Health Sector Consolidated Salary Scales 2016 as follows: €28,860 – €38,456.

Hours:                   39 hours per week.

Annual leave:      30 days

Pension Scheme: Enable Ireland operates a contributory pension scheme which all members of staff may join on earlier of 1st July or 1st January following start date.

Medical:             The successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical.

Government Plan For 14,000 New Jobs In Midlands

THE Government has committed itself to the creation of 14,000 extra jobs in Offaly, Laois, Longford and Westmeath as it plans to see the country return to full employment by 2018.
The new jobs in the Midlands will be in manufacturing, tourism, food, design, energy and other sectors.
The target was announced on Monday when the Action Plan for Jobs in the Midland region was launched by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Jobs and Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton at the Tullamore DEW distillery.
Minister Bruton also visited the Tullamore DEW Visitor Centre on Bury Quay and the Junction, an innovation and design centre located in the Axis Business Park off the Clara Road.
In an interview with the Tullamore Tribune at the Visitor Centre, Minister Bruton explained that ‘collaboration’ across all the State agencies, from the IDA and Enterprise Ireland, the local authorities and the Education and Training Boards, Athlone Institute of Technology and the employment support service Intreo, would be brought to a ‘new level’.

Industry-Focused Flexible Courses

AIT have launched new programmes addressing national skill shortages. These are delivered in a flexible manner with 50% online and only 2 days per week on-campus.

The programmes are targeted to address identified skill shortages. Learners may be working, part working or seeking employment and will attend AIT for only 2 days per week. Up to 50% of classes & tutorials may be taken from home (online). AIT is offering 11 part-time, industry-focused programmes ranging from certificates through to postgraduate degrees. Tooling Engineer

Responsibilities

  1.  Design fixtures, dies, molds, cutting tools, equipment, and machine work envelope layouts.
  2.  Initiate and manage tool design changes in CMS
  3.  Issue purchase order requests for off-the-shelf tooling
  4.  Initiate tool work orders for the build of tool designs
  5.  Support the Zimmer tool fabrication shop or other outside vendors on the build of tool designs

Skills Experience & Qualifications:

  1.  Must have working knowledge of tool and fixture design for the areas of machining (lathes, mills, CNC applications, perishable tooling applications) and finishing (polishing, mass finishing, blasting, electro polishing, etc.).
  2.  Must have working knowledge in control procedures, such as the  Change Management System (CMS), and Deviation process, the company’s Engineering Specifications, Laboratory Procedures and Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  3.  Must have working knowledge of drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  4.  Demonstrate ownership of and ability to manage project assignments with a broad scope and high level of complexity and able to prioritize and complete work in a timely manner.
  5.  Must have the ability to effectively work within a team and cross functionally to expedite completion of critical project tasks.
  6.  Candidates should have an Associate’s Degree in an engineering science plus 5 years’ experience in fixture and tool design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have 3 years Unigraphics experience with Rev. 18 or higher.
